"Early in the morning, at break of day, in all the freshness and dawn of one's strength, to read a book - I call that vicious!"- Friedrich Nietzsche
The gun in the back is a Cogswell and Harrison Konor, chambered 2 3/4" 12b 28" barrels w/thin wall choke tubes, the Konor is a side plated box lock and was made in the thirties. The owner shoots a hand loaded 3/4oz (Federal Paper shells) of 8s for Woodcock and Grouse. The gun in the front is a side lever Purdy chambered 2 1/2" 16b with 30" barrels choked cyl and 1/4 choke. Made 1895 shooting an RST 1oz load of 8s.
The best part of hunting with the gentleman who owns the Cogswell is getting a chance to smell the paper shells after he fires them....

Black FlyOh my! I can smell the musty leaves, dusty feathers, and burnt powder hanging in the air. Only five and a half months before heaven returns to earth.

Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

MtWoodsonThe birds and shotguns are nice, but the dry-stacked rock and the moss are so very much old New England. I think I'm missing Maine again.

ZephyrOne of the nice things about our New England coverts is that they have so much character, to the point that they all have names.

AtticusBeautiful looking Setter! I really like the shape and build of the Old Hemlock lines.
My Llewellin, Boo has a OH look to him; both shape and size.

ZephyrGreat looking dogs thanks for sharing their pics...pretty neat to be able to hunt over a spectacular looking brace like that...
How big are your pups ?? the OH line are usually bigger dogs then the LLews
Zephyr runs about 70# at the end of the season I am fortunate enough to be able to hunt most if not all of the woodcock season, At eight years old he is still able to hunt all day every day I'm always amazed at the stamina of the OH dogs I have owned
All the best in the up and coming season

AtticusThe male Boo, is big for a llew. He is almost 3yrs and weighs about 65#. Scout the darker one is an almost 5 year old female and about 45#. Both weights are at the beginning of the season. with lots of supplementing (hamburger and rice) I can keep them from losing too much in the season.
You have a great season too!

penrod72My mother has a Ryman/ Decoverly setter- we didn't hunt him last year as my dad passed in Ocotber. She is getting geared up for this year's grouse and woodcock season though!
We had several singing birds on the property this year, so I hope for good flights this year!
