Midland Gun Co - Opinions?
I wasn't sure if to put this here or under shotgunning. But I figured more views here.
I have an opportunity to buy a bird gun but I've never heard of the brand and would like some opinions.
It's a 1920s made in England brand called Midland. It says Birmingham on the barrels. A S/S double in 12 ga. Real nice wood with a splinter forearm, well done factory looking engraving, twin triggers, 30" barrels, full chokes, pistol grip stock and 3" chambers. It has the Greener cross bolt.
The condition is excellent and the price is in the low $2K range.
But, I just don't know anything about the make. Perhaps it was made for Midland by one of the better known makers?
How desirable are they considered?
Could have been made by anyone and
just retailed by Midland.
I can't remember whether midland
were a maker or a retailer or both.
As long as the barrels haven't been dicked
with and it's tight, probably a sound gun.
3" chambers and tight chokes, could well be
a Pigeon gun.
Or, have the chambers been taken out to 3"
- the proof marks might tell you.
