Sir.

That is a 16 gauge Arrieta 903 S X S, I managed to sneak up on a while back.

Guy brought it and an Ugartechea in 28 gauge to trade.

Sixteen gauge is my favorite followed closely by 28 gauge guns.

Price was right so I got em' both.

I have wanted to try a plantation style hunt for a long time, mainly for the tradition. It looks like
You had a blast.

I don’t blame you for snagging those Spanish beauties.

What was the temperature there? you guys look like you are wearing lots of bulky layers to keep out the cold!
A bit different from England when it is usually 45-50 degrees, but often wet....

It rained the whole 700 miles there.
It was drizzling during the two sessions on Friday. Temps were in the mid 40's.

On saturday it was crisp and clear. Temps early in the mid-thirties and got up to the mid-50's during the afternoon.

Sounds just like England, then! I expect you dried off your nice guns very carefully...

Yes,

Before I left I gave the wood a good coating of Renaissance Wax/Polish.

After each outing I break it/them down and wipe down both the wood and steel with a protectant/lubricant and then run a tico tool bore cleaner down each bore and re-assemble. Takes about 5 minutes.

Spring
Nothing like enjoying a great day following dogs, especially when it’s your dog on wild birds.
It’s a year-round process and effort to manage for birds, as those magical covey rises explode in such a furor that is all but unimaginable to many. On point your dogs shiver with excitement that is bred in them to their core and they freeze as you’ve trained them to do, and you take those soft steps forward knowing that at any second there will be an explosion of feathers and speed as you raise that gun that through the years has become part of you. The thrill of the shot is stunning, but almost secondary to the pageantry that surrounds you. Your dog remains still by your side as the mystic covey rise takes place, waiting on your signal that they can go, as they were carefully taught on the countless days of training. There’s simply nothing like it, no matter how many times you’ve experienced it all. Gentleman Bob and all that combines with his pursuit, the careful design and layout of the property, the spring burning, the retention of nesting and escape cover, the whistles of love that serenade all summer, and the patience it takes to wait until November, all culminate at once into joy, into a dream, into a happiness that truly is years in the making. Each and every time.
Quail hunting is simply the best.
