South Dakota's National Grasslands
Anyone ever hunted them? Results?

I have hunted the Midland, SD area several times for Sharptail Grouse with good success, but never the Grasslands themselves. Most ranchers will let you hunt if you ask nicely. It's a beautiful part of the state and you can walk for miles.

A friend of mine recently hunted in/near the Grasslands and saw plenty of birds, grouse and phesants. Granted the best cover is usually on the private land since sometimes the public gets overgrazed but there can be some great spots it just takes some searching.

I have hunted the Ft. Pierre Grasslands several years ago. Killed some Prairie chickens and Sharpies. I'd like to go back sometime and try again.

Gentlemen, thanks for the responses. Did you hunt early, mid, or late season? Are rattlesnakes a big concern for the dogs? Too many things to hunt.....so little time....
