204 Ruger T/C barrel accuracy problem
Hi,
My son recently purchased a used barrel for his encore (14 inch SS). We mounted a scope and expected tac driving accuracy. we were very shocked when at 25 yards the bullets were making keyhloles in the target. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think Thompson Center will replace it but, I am not sure. Has anyone had any similar problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forums!

How heavy are the bullets? I have a 20 tactical and when working up reduced velocity loads I found 40 grain bullets don't stabilize well at all. It could be the same issue with a 14" barrel.

Have you measured the velocity yet?

I have a couple of TC barrels in .204 Ruger. Neither will shoot 40 gr. bullets. They will however shoot 32 and 39 gr. bullets with long range prairie dog accuracy.

Your bullets are failing to stabilize. Get a box of 32 grainers and give them a whirl.

Thanks for the advice. I am out of town dancing for the rest of the week but, will try lighter bullets as soon as I return. dancing
