XTP question
I am moving a 45 caliber saboted 250 grain xtp @ ~ 2,000 fps. Can I expect reasonable expansion on whitetail? Thanks, smoker1

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.

I have had very good luck with this bullet. The only thing is I have never checked the speed. I used to use 90 grains of loose pyrodex but now I use two 50 grain pellets. I have had more DRT's with this load and bullet than with any other load combo I have tried. Jim

It will fully expand and give full penetration on a classic side shot.

I use 100 grains of T7, always a passthrough and great expandtion from 20 to 100yrds. Took em in the neck, head, backbone, ribs and shoulder.

I have'nt a shot past 100 yet to say on its performance.

Someday I hope to recover a bullet to see its weight.

Took a doe out at 230 yrds jan 2011 season, pass thru didn't recover. Bumped up to around 110 grains that summer. Frontal shot head down went into the spine out the shoulder.

I, too, have had good success with this bullet in my .45 caliber. I used to use 90 grains of Pyrodex. I switched to the American Pioneer Powder this fall, but had to increase to 120 grains of it to get similar trajectory. I don't know if I'll stay with that powder, or not. It is very clean shooting. I didn't have trouble with ignition, but I haven't used it long enough to formulate a real good opinion about it.

Everything I say is fully substantiated by my own opinion.

Shot a Doe yesterday ~ 75 yards complete pass through. Exit hole appeared to show expansion. In any case I'm glad it wasn't me Smiler

M Uncle, dad, several buddies, and I use the 240 grain 44 caliber and they work great. My buddy shot a doe at 30 yards and the entrance hole was larger than the exit. The bullets are designed for pistol velocities.
