lobogaLyman .54 GPR barrel thickness?
Hi, I have been shopping around and nearly decided on getting the Lyman Great Plains rifle kit in .54 percussion and getting the Great Plains Hunter barrel for shooting conicals. However I was curious on the across the flats measurement of the barrel and can't seem to find that info anywhere, including the Lyman site, anyone know or have one to measure? Thanks

nordrsetaMy GPR 54 roundball rocklock is one inch across the flats. Make sure you enjoy a hook buttplate before you get the GPR, especially if you plan to run anything heavier that a .530 RB. If I had it to do over again I'd get their Trade Rifle instead.

Do you mean a hooked breech,so that the barrels interchange easily?

nordrsetaNo, I mean the deeply curved buttplate that is no fun at all as the loads get stiffer. The one on the Trade Rifle looks kinder to the shoulder.

lobogaThanks for the info. I have the curved buttplate on my Hawken type rifle and I haven't had any problem with it at all. Its a baby to shoot compared to my .373 H&H with a rubber recoil pad and my standard load is a 460 grain buffalo bullet with 90 grains of FFG.
