Loads for .50 deer stalker
I now have a nice new Lyman deer stalker rifle - .50 can and some lee 320grn R.E.A.L bullets...but no loading data or booklet with the rifle.

Have lots of FFFg powder and hoping to get some FFg in the next couple of months. Does anybody have any good loads to start working arround?

Plan to try it out on impala and Kudu next weekend. and want to take as many shortcuts in load develpment as I can!

I did not look up the twist for your rifle , I have always used 2 grains times caliber =.50=100 grains .45=90 grains etc. I only use 3/F powder for all calibers . for .50 I start with 80 grains to site in , clean and add 5 grains after shooting a string of 3 or 5 at 50 yards when you get the best group ? say your rifle groups best at 90 grains now shoot at 100 yds and set sights ! if your rifle is a twist of 1in48 it will shoot both conicals and round balls , if slower twist only round will shoot accurately .I use Hodgton Triple 7 3/F

Concho - thanks - I shot three nice impala yesterday with the rifle. Used 90grns FFFg behind a 360grn Bullet. Sure put those impala down!

BTW rifle has a 1:48 twist

Very nice The 1in48 twist means you can use round balls as well as conicale

Concho- Finally had a good run of internet conectivity and was able to open the Lyman web pages...and see that their maximum recomended load with a 320grn bullet is 80grns fffg. No wonder the rifle seemed to kick! Doesn't appear to have done any damage though, so I think I will reduce the load somewhat and re-zero!

I suggest you stick with 80 grains as your Hunting load your accuracy will depreciate with lower loads.
