My dad is the only person I know who has hunted with a smoothbore, and has done it for several seasons in the past. He used indian trade guns, which are an interest of his (long story there!). On the practical side, range has always been on the short side even though I'm suprised at the accuracy of a round ball out of a smooth bore.

Anyone else other than my dad crazy enough to hunt with a smoothbore?

I have done it in the past,( I don't have one right now..) and several of My customers do it all the time. The smooth bore, if loaded correctly will ammaze most people with it's accuracy out to about 50 yds. and it's still well within "minute of deer" at 100. A good one will shoot at least as well as a modern smooth bore shotgun with slugs, and many times they shoot somewhat better.
