Does anybody make good ones in the 1,500.00 or less price range?

Pedersoli makes a replica of a Mortimer rifle. Ross Seifried wrote an article about it in Rifle a couple of years ago. He thought the barrel was too long to be true English pattern, but he hadn't gotten around to cutting it. The length didn't keep him from shooting a nice buck with it though. Seems like he paid a little less than $1000 for it.

Just saw the barrel off until the rifle balances like a SxS bird gun, recrown the muzzle, and recut the front sight dovetail, and you'll be in business.

given that you are on a big game forum, I presume you are more interested in a fifle than a shotgun. So, yes a number of folks do. Most of them are custom makers though.

Pedersoli is the one that makes english rifle in "off the rack" versions. Depending on what you want to do they have several models. A Pedersoli Gibbs is probably the longest range big game rifle. It is a .45 cal with an 18" twist and uses 450-550 gr bullets as far out as you care to shoot. They are right about $1500 or a bit more if you add a couple of the necessary accessories (Platinum nipple, moulds, sizing die).

If you want a 300 yd deer/elk/anything rifle, it's virtually along in that department. They are a bit heavy as they are really geared to the Creedmoor crowd who shoot them at ranges of 600-1000 yds.

A lot of the best muzzleloading gun makers can be found at http://www.americanlongrifles.com/american-longrifles-BBS-frame.htm They really are more interested in making American style rifles however.

I was sort of thinking about selling my Gibbs, but if you really want a .58, that is ruled out.

The english pattern rifles are indeed the best and most shootable profile. You can try these guys; Pecatonica Long Rifle Supply. Most of what they make is the traditional American patterns with too much drop and curved buttplates. They make an English Rigby Sporting Rifle which sounds like what you're looking for. I know they sell kits and maybe they sell completed guns too.

Don Brown in Yakima, WA builds an exact replica of an Alexander Henry Sporting rifle in 58 cal. He also builds english pattern long range target rifles for the 1000 yard black powder matches. You can buy one of his kits for $2 - 3K. or he'll build you a complete rifle for considerably more. He built a 66 Cal for me that is all done execpt the engraving, case color and bluing.

I have been searching for the same thing for quite a while. Looking on Track is a good way to see the styles to get an idea of what you want and who is making it.
I am having one built now but will reserve comment until I see it done and shoot it. I did have a Caywood English Game gun built but have been using a Gefroh (also mentioned by Seifried) lately.
Would love to see you post when you find what you are looking for. I would still like to find a another good one.
