If so, do you use standard #11 nipple and caps, or have you switched to Musket nipple/cap?

I use a Hot shot nipple. I put a tiny amount of breech plug grease on the threads before I install it. I use #11 CCI mag caps, and I also use Pyrodex P. Ron

I have a .36 caliber squirrel rifle that came out of their custom shop years ago before the big fire.

Very very accurate little rifle.
I'm running #11 caps and black powder -- don't see a good reason to run anything else.
The black powder washes out with water, with the proper lube on patches it'll shoot all day without a cleaning.

I have a Hawken in .54 cal and I only use Goex black powder with a patched round ball, and CCI #11 caps.

I bought a .50 TC in 1972 when living in Northern BC - the bush - I rebarreled it with a cut rifled .50 Bauska barrel in 1973 along with modifying the stock to look more period correct. I used real BP, still do in all my ML's as BP fouling is not corrosive - the phoney's are.

I finally found a .490" ball, .022" denim patching best for the TC, spit for lube for target shooting and mink oil for hunting. Can't remember whether I used 10's, 11's or 12's. Probably anything I could get my hands on, loose or tight didn't matter much- back then. Nowadays, I mostly use a ball that is .005" under bore size, and a .022" denim (10oz.) patch. I shoot mostly flinters toady, but still have 3 cap-locks - #11's, CCI Rem's and RWS.

I have a Renegade with two barrels fitted to it and usually shoot the 54 when hunting. I tried pyrodex and found it usable but like 3F Goex best, it does clean out easier. #11 caps and the Lyman minie ball on top of 80 grains of 3F work just fine. The 50 caliber is what I play with though it has taken a few deer.

i'm surprised no one uses musket caps (pleasantly though, as i too prefer #11).

Percussion caps work great, with black powder anything more is just excessive and unnecessary.

I agree, Tinker. Persussion caps have worked perfectly for me for almost 40 years. I use musket caps on the Musketoon now, and did use them on the various Zouaves and PH Enfields over the years. The 'extra' flash isn't necessary as BP is easily ignited and normal caps work fine on any gun with BP, no matter the bore size nor powder charge.

I too have been using #11 caps for as long as I've shot ML's.

My formula for the 54cal Renegade is a 425gr great plains bullet over 100gr of Pyrodex OVER 10gr of FFg. I've had problems igniting pyrodex if it sits in the bore for a few days. Pouring 10gr of FFg down the pipe first solved that problem. Also, started to use the Winchester "magnum" #11's. Just hedging my bets.

Is there a good conversion to musket caps or 209 shotgun primers for the Renegade??? I'd be interested ONLY because my arthritic fingers in cold weather have a problem handling those tiny #11's.

I love that 54cal!!! Most decisive in taking our fat-bodied UP deer!!

I've tried the musket caps on my 50 cal. T/C Hawken. They didn't seem to provide any real advantage. I seem to remember that precision off the bench suffered a bit with the musket caps compared to # 11 CCI's. Still plenty good for "minute-of-deer"...but not the ragged 1-hole groups I got with #11's, Goex, and a good RB/patch and lube combo outta my 32" Green Mountain Bbl. My absolute favorite caps have been the Dynamit-Nobel. I also tried Remington, but won't buy them again unless there's simply NO other choice.
