Dave JamesRe: BEST BARREL MAKER
Ray, not having taken on a cape buff, but reading about it, I would opt for larger then 62 calibere, I would go 12 or 10 bore, and if you really want to hammer them an 8 bore, as I have told others get ahold of a copy "Black Powder Huntig" mag, there are few gentleman inthere that have done the big-5 with front stuffers

AtkinsonI realize that all you smudge faced shooters love the 50 caliber and the die hards love the round ball, but I just might take a notion to hammer a Cape Buffalo with my muzzle loader, and I think I would feel gobs better with the biggest bore out there say a 54 to 62...What do you think?

BrentRay,
Use at least the 62 and the heaviest bullet it will take, but you'd be better off with the .45-70
How strange.
Brent
PS. I have an 18 bore Joseph Lang double rifle muzzleloader in excellent condition, and may be persuaded to part with it - maybe.

54JNollLC Rice I think uses 12L14 also.
Reyhl does not. He uses something tougher but exactly what I do not recall.
Colrain is still 12L14

54JNollRay,
I like my 54 and my 58 but I aint taken them after no Cape Buffalo.
I would think that a .62 would be as small as you would want to go. You can ger conicals in this size for more umph. You can also get bores in .69 rifled as well as larger.
Ed Rehyl will make what you want with the twist you want for the bullet you want. In this case bigger is defiately better.
