Idaho Shooteradvice on .54 sabot
A coworker has asked me about the use of sabots and Pyrodex pellets in his kit gun. It is a 54 caliber CVA with side hammer rather than inline ignition. He intends to hunt Elk in the late season muzzle loader hunt in Idaho.
I have never shot or worked with black powder arms and would appreciate any suggestions.

derfIt all pretty much depends on the twist of the rifleing. If that CVA is up around 1/60 he is better off with Round Ball. If the twist is in the neighbourhood of 1/48 then the sabot will work "maybe"! My Hawken 50 is a 1/48 and it just plain hates sabots. PRB's work much better. In fact it dislikes the sabot's so much I have been experimenting with firing arrows out of the Hawken with them instead of saboted bullets.
