I am looking for input from folks who have used/are using any of the various systems to allow using small rifle primers instead of 209 shotgun primers in in-lines.

Everything I have seen says this can really contribute to better accuracy and consistency.

I've got a couple of loads that work well in my 2 ml's, but both were pretty picky to get to shoot like I wanted, so was thinking of trying a small rifle primer system.

I had better accuracy with the weakest 209s that I tried. Winchester was the most accurate I tried.

I made a holder for a small rifle primer for a buddy a few years ago. It looked like a brass 209 primer bored for a snug fit small rifle primer. He said his rifle shot the best with it of anything he had tried. He lost it the first year though.

I think a small rifle primer should be a excellent choice.

youngoutdoors, I just got the Vari-flame system in! I'll be trying it in a few weeks if our weather will settle down a little, I'm just too worn out from surgery and unemployment to go out in crappy weather!!

It was called accushot I love them.I think I bought about 30 sets.i have it on all of my muzzleloaders including inlines.I shot a 1 hole group with my Marlin 54 caliber with 325 gr speer saboted bullets.They are awesome and waterproof .

I got the one from PR Bullet in which .25 ACP's
are used in the BP. Later I found out that one
could just drill down into the BP where the 209
goes and save a lot of $$.

The only thing for primers I had at the time were
CCI small rifle mag primers, but they worked great
in my Encore, giving it the best groups it had
gotten.

Hey Danno, thanks for that, what drill bit would you use to drill your breach plug? I've got a spare I would be willing to try it on.

I think the 25 ACP cases would be easier to deal with than the vari-flame adapters.

Well Fish, I don't know how much I can be of help
there. A caliper reading of .479 for depth is
pretty close for that measurement. My calipers
read .256 for diameter, but that may not be close
enough. Someone on the Gunsmithing forum may be
of help for the chamber diameter measurement.

The .479 depth measurement is to the very
outside, NOT a measurement of the point of the
drill bit. (Hope ya have access to a lathe for
this....it will need to be pretty darned true.)

It also helps to use a chamferring tool on the
outside of your case mouth. Even at that, I
need to snap the action shut on virgin brass.
After the first shot, and they are "reloaded"
the action closes normally.
