WesternmassmanLyman 57 Peep vs T/C Peep?
I have a 21" bbl on a Renegade with a T/C peep. My issue is that I was forced to use a very short front sight (maybe 1/4") as the adjustment on the T/C peep almost touchs the tang to get the rifle sighted at 100yds.
Would the adjustment of a Lyman 57 peep allow for the use of a taller front sight?

Idaho RonI use the Lyman 57 SML peep with a Lyman 17 AML globe sights. I have this set up on 4 rifles and they work. Ron

youngoutdoorsI modified a few 57's for Encores and Remingtons for out west hunting and could get 300 yds with the rifles I worked on. Just calibrate the slide rule; actually I made new brass slide rules with my own marks for yardage. I like the 57's the best because you just push a button and raise or lower the sight to the yardage you want.

Don EdwardsRon,
Do you pull the barrel off those rifles(for cleaning) with the Lyman sight..?? Does that cause you to "lose zero" and have to re-sight when you put it back together..???
I've wanted to try a Lyman on my T/C Hawken, but have been concerned that pulling the barrel forcleaning would cause my zero to shift and have to be sighted back in everytime.
Thanks for your thoughts...
Don

youngoutdoorsDon, I used to have a 57 on a Hawken too and never noticed any problems with zero when removing and cleaning the barrel. Seems like I had to drill and tap a new hole in the tang on my Old TC Hawken.

Idaho RonI have two guns that never had a problem NOT ONE! Then I put my TC Renegade 458 together and I saw a little horizontal stringing. I glass bedded the front 6” or so of the barrel and all was good with that one too. The Lyman sights are a GREAT sight. I just finished my fourth muzzleloader with them on it. Ron

Don EdwardsThanks for the reaponses. I had not considered glass-bedding the bbl. forward of the pin...but that would provide a hard-point for bbl alignment each time you put her back together. Good(read: minimal "slop") hook fit into the tang would be the other point abd between the two, ought to provide a solid set-up.
My "aging eyes" have brought me some "issues" the Lyman 57 might help with.

StoneybrokeOn that "slop" between hook and tang: You might want to cut a piece of SS shim stock to fit around the hook and butt up to the tang. I used .007" on my old TC rock lock.
