I remember this being held up as an example of Dem illegal voting.

Two things: 1) She never actually voted. She cast a provisional ballot that was disqualified. 2) The law that makes voting illegal based on the excerpts from the news article above appears to require a showing of subjective mens rea.

All around interesting.

Observations: 1) The Supreme Court has never held voting to be a Fundamental Right whereupon legislative restrictions have to survive Strict Scrutiny. However, let us use Intermediate Scrutiny as a discussion point, I fail to see why non-violent felony convictions should forever or automatically disenfranchise a citizen. I say the same thing about firearm possession which is a Fundamental Right and receives the highest scrutiny.

Now, if someone wants to argue that felony fraud or tax invasion convictions go to a character of dishonesty. Therefore, the right to vote should be removed. Okay, that is a fair position. I disagree, but fair.
