Exactly. Ex-GOP congressman calls out MAGA for 'becoming the people we used to ridicule' Ex-GOP congressman calls out MAGA for 'becoming the people we used to ridicule' Story by Travis Gettys Former Republican congressman Joe Walsh has changed a lot since he was swept into office 15 years ago in the Tea Party wave, but he remains a free speech absolutist. The recently converted Democrat wrote on his "Social Contract" Substack page about his personal relationship with right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk and abhorred the reaction to his assassination by President Donald Trump's administration, which has threatened to prosecute anyone who criticized the slain activist. "I knew Charlie well years ago," Walsh wrote. "He was my political son, and I helped him launch Turning Point USA in 2012. We later parted ways over Donald Trump, but I never, ever wished him harm. His death is tragic, and I grieve for his wife and family." Kirk encouraged Walsh to respond to then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch's suggestion that critics of Islam could be investigated in the wake of the San Bernardino mass shooting. "I lost it," Walsh wrote. "I dared her to throw me in jail. That rant went viral, and then the feds showed up to intimidate me." "That was the 'old' Joe Walsh, who, as I often say, was a divisive political a------," Walsh added. "I’m sharing this now only to show that, even though I was an ignorant loudmouth back then, I’ve always been consistent on my bedrock beliefs, whether left, right, or center. I’ve changed a lot since then, but I remain a free speech absolutist." JD Vance guest hosted Kirk's podcast Monday and urged listeners to report social media users to their employers for being insufficiently mournful of the MAGA luminary's death, and Attorney General Pam Bondi threatened to prosecute criticism of conservatives as "hate speech." "It’s stupid and beneath the Office of the Vice President to go on a podcast and encourage Americans to rat each other out over mean tweets," Walsh wrote. "It’s par for the course for JD Vance, who, nine years after comparing Trump to Hitler, wants nothing more than to earn your devotion, as Charlie Kirk did." "However, this is not unconstitutional," he added. "A private company has every right to fire anyone if they see them posting ugly stuff online that doesn’t represent the company well. That’s the reality of free markets." However, the attorney general's threats to prosecute a Home Depot employee who refused to print supportive flyers about Kirk, which sent Walsh into a rage. "Think about that," he wrote. "The Attorney General of the United States using the power of government to intimidate a private citizen for declining to make political propaganda. My friends, that’s not freedom. That’s tyranny." "Remember the Colorado baker who didn’t want to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because it violated his religious beliefs?" he added, referring to a five-year legal saga from his time in Congress. "Conservatives defended him, arguing he shouldn’t be forced to participate in speech he disagreed with. And we were right to defend him. But now, when a Home Depot clerk refuses to print Charlie Kirk flyers, you’re not satisfied that they were fired — you’re demanding prosecution? You’re becoming the people we used to ridicule." Tyler Robinson is offered the death penalty. Kyle Rittenhouse is offered Republican internships. That is all.

Tyler Robinson planned and carried out the murder of an unarmed man. Kyle Rittenhouse shot a man in self-defense, during a liberal riot. This is a distinction which escapes liberals. That's all. Bill

Rittenhouse killed two and wounded a third, after travelling from Illinois to Wisconsin with his rifle to do it. He went there to kill somebody. When you’d go to a riot with a loaded rifle, that’s not ‘self defence’, that’s hunting. Not much distinction if you ask me - except that Robinson had a specific target in mind, while Rittenhouse just wanted to shoot somebody and he didn’t really care who.
