“Strategically, it doesn’t make any sense. Technically, it doesn’t make any sense. Economically it doesn’t make any sense,” Tierney added.
So of course Trump is going to throw billions of tax dollars at it...

crbutlerAh, yes, the old anything that interferes with MAD is destabilizing argument.
I don't disagree that the technology isn't there right now. I also can see where a space based antimissile defense might conceivably be a violation of some treaties. I agree it would be expensive.
That doesn't mean it is "strategically doesn't make sense, technically doesn't make sense, and economically doesn't make sense." but rather it is something we should be discussing.
Unfortunately, I see Trump running his mouth, not actually having a defense system in mind.
As to Musk, well, I doubt much of anything is going to go in orbit until the system is actually developed, and if this is like most new defense research projects, he will probably be on his way to Mars (his personal goal) before anything actually is done...

TumbleweedHow many billions of dollars can Elon reap in research and development funds between ‘now’ and ‘then’?
And would he be willing to share a few of those billions with the POTUS who hands him the contract?

elon makes rockets, not missile defense systems --
and OWNS the commercial launch space -- well over 65% of that market -- AND shockingly low per kg cost (c$1500) than EVERYTHING else -
oh, and high success rate
but hey, make-up whatever you need to cope
