Mike MitchellHegseth berates top brass at meeting
Channeling that "warrior ethos" of his....I wonder if that includes not getting falling down drunk? Or being unfaithful to your wife?
trump spoke too. I just bet all those career military folks were happy to hear from Cadet Bone-spurs about what their obligations are as professional military officers.

crbutlerWhile I don’t think Hegseth is the man for the job, I have no issue with the military getting back to its role being killing people and breaking things once the government has decided war is our only option.
A return to a force based on that principle is warranted. A military should not be a social experiment.
Of course, if we went fully that way, Hegseth would not fit as he’s more political than combat oriented himself. Yes, he’s a bit of a hypocrite.
Of course, while you might find an exception occasionally, the vast majority of the political folks are hypocrites.

LHeym500I watched it.
Vulgar, fake Christianity, rife with hypocrisy, and equality is not an experiment.
The hypocrisy was the use of vulgarity and Christianity to make other US citizens others and less than.

President Donald Trump delivered a meandering address to an unprecedented gathering of the country’s top military leaders, railing against his predecessor, celebrating tariffs and floating the idea of using American cities as a training ground for the military as he painted a picture of the U.S. under attack “from within.”

ledvmI ate lunch in Plano today with my lawyer buddy and his client/friend who is a retired Marine colonel who owns a shooting facility in East Texas.
The retired colonel’s words on Hegseth’s speech were: “It was a master-class speech…about f***ing time.”
I really didn’t listen to it all.

You're so full of shit your breath stinks. You know this guy and you know that guy and you have all the inside info. It's always the same story with you. Bull fucking shit.
Can you even imagine what all those general officers thought while listening to our alcoholic womanizing sec def lectured them about war-fighting? The guy that had to be carried out of more than one party because he was too drunk to walk? The guy who was so drunk at a strip club he had to be stopped from getting on the stage with the strippers? The guy who his fellow FOX news employees were worried he'd be too drunk to do his monkey-show on FOX?
I'd be willing to bet virtually every single one of them was a junior officer during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and were probably actively involved in combat operations. And, they have to listen to some alcoholic womanizer who frosts his hair and cheats on his wife tell them that they can't carry a little extra weight or grow a beard. Right after listening to Cadet Bone-Spur who dodged the draft lecture them about their military obligations to our country. Or, more likely, to him.
Obscene. Ridiculous. Par for the course for the trump administration. A joke.

Then they’ll be replaced by men who swear fealty to Trump instead of to the Constitution; an influx of politically affiliated SchutzStaffel.
Between Hegseth and Trump (the alcoholic and the draft dodger) they were so insulting and denigrating that a lot of these fine and accomplished men will not stoop to serving under them.

I think he really intended to insult them to the point of inducing the departure of those who aren’t brain washed ass kissers. That’s how an autocrat consolidates power.

Again....it's the only explanation that makes any sense. The entire world wondered what possible explanation there could be to call every US general officer to a meeting. You've identified it. I'm surprised our drunk idiot sec def didn't require an oath of loyalty to trump during the lecture.

We're beyond posse comitatus. Law means nothing to trump. We'll see what excuse the SCOTUS comes up with the allow him to side-skirt it...and they will. They're complicit.
"The Posse Comitatus Act is a federal law that restricts the use of the U.S. military for domestic law enforcement purposes. Enacted in 1878, it prohibits federal military personnel from acting as a posse comitatus (the power of the county) to enforce civilian laws unless expressly authorized by the Constitution or an act of Congress."

Scott KingI'm of a different opinion of our General Staff than some of what's mentioned above.
I'm inclined to think officers like Mattis, Kelly and Milley serve and feel duty bound to their nation and less so to the current popular opinion seated in the Oval Office.
"Duty, Honor, Country" doesn't include revenge partisan politics.
I don't expect mass resignations from our leadership. I expect a continuation of dedication to the service they have chosen and solid commitment to America.
Shrodinger mentioned the other day that he worked for a couple of the people he most vehemently disagrees with. I expect our fighting men and women to do the same thru the next few years.

I agree with what you said mostly. I think Hegseth and Trump doubled teamed on them as a farce show of strength. The real strength is in the audience, and they all know it. Hegseth and Trump were trying a big/little preemptive bluff knowing the inbred resistance to a fascist running amuck with the constitution. The gene pool of those officers has been selective breed for many years. The dogs of war know what Trump and Hegseth are and I figure that they loathe them as much as or more than Mattis, Kelly and Milley and more did.
I think it's gonna be just like Kimmel's ratings soared after Trump's stunt.
About the only thing you said that I don't agree with is you use of the words "partisan politics". What Trump is doing could be diminished with that term because it is in the political arena and it is partisan. However, the idea of deploying military to blue cities and training there, with instruction from the top to use lethal force, is in another realm.
We all know from history and logic EXACTLY how this is essential fascist playbook. The top brass know this is an existential crisis and they know who is causing it.
If you and I and others are correct, this isn't going to work out as Trump plans.
The one group who has the power to steer it one way or another is the military, but only if deployed with Trump's mission. They could resist or comply or march out-of-step.
Let's look at the scenario (short story)
One way or another Trump is going to stir mass protests, maybe riots. That's also playbook.
Then he will use that for crackdown, if he hasn't already, causing the situation to escalate.
He wants to and will declare martial law, nationally, and we all know the next steps in the playbook
Cities will burn, people will be killed, and he will rejoice in his power bubble.
Until it stops.
And how's an election going to happen in that National Erection?
What Trump has envisioned isn't just deployment of the military on citizens, but what he wants is an event or events that make the Kent State Massacre look like a picnic gone bad.
And he will claim he didn't see it coming, or that he tried to stop it, and blame the Left, and MAGA will believe him.

Regarding my long post, responding to Scott King, I've had second thoughts.
The source of all disappointment is expectations.
I expected the majority of the nation had sense and morals enough to not vote Trump in power again. I was disappointed.
Expecting Trump to fail with his fascist playbook could result in another big disappointment.
Now I remember Michael Flynn. There could be more monsters like him in the military, and serve two purposes. One, obviously carry out Trump's plans with some creative enhancements, God's will of course. Two, serve as a watchdog for purging within the ranks those deemed not sufficiently loyal to Trump/God.
