In an interview he said, " when they put that rifle in my hands, I thought, lets go hunt something"
He was just a skinny rural hunting kid, but he could sure shoot.
I remember chuckling to myself when I read the interview.
I had bought myself a pair of Leupold compact bino's, when I was in, and always had them with me. Even when in the jungle they were useful, and I was always using them. My men were always saying I was "out hunting" when we were deployed.

A born Texan has instilled in his system a mind-set of no retreat or no surrender. I wish everyone the world over had the dominating spirit that motivates Texans.ā€“ Billy Clayton, Speaker of the Texas House

No state commands such fierce pride and loyalty. Lesser mortals are pitied for their misfortune in not being born in Texas.ā€” Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Texas in May, 1991.
