lavacaI think he painted himself into a box. In light of the pardon, Hunter can no longer take the Fifth, so he has to testify and can be questioned about the "big guy's" involvement. His pardon is for acts taken as of 12/1/24, so he can be prosecuted for perjury thereafter. I'd issue a subpoena and require him to testify and then, someone's going down, Hunter, or his family members, including the "big guy."

Hunter can take the 5th on any questioning that is not covered by the pardon(s).

MtElkHunterCriticize Biden all you want but put in the same situation I think most reasonable parents would do the same thing. At the end of your career, 82 years old in failing health and mental ability and you have the ability to keep your child out of jail with no repercussions to yourself, only a hardened old asshole would not Parden their child.
04 December 2024, 04:58
theback40Someone brought up a good point on the news.
if Biden "wanted" to let the law play out, but couldnt because he thought hunter was being politically persecuted...... why couldnt he fire the party who was persecuting him? It's Bidens DOJ.
04 December 2024, 05:51
JTEXBiden was covering his ass! Period.
The whole damned family would have been implicated. Hunter was the instrument.....the whole family where beneficiaries.....
Look at the dates....
.
04 December 2024, 07:08
lavacaThat pardon is so broad there is nothing that's not covered by it except crimes before the effective date and after December 1. So he can't take the Fifth for anything in that period. Can he lie. Yes, and I expect he will. I'm counting on it!. Then prosecute him and don't forget the "big guy".

Except hunter isn't a child and wasn't a child when he participated in the crimes he was charged and convicted of. He should be required to pay all of the back taxes owed.
I don't think this was about hunter though since 0biden ran the pardon to cover a series of years. I think it is to protect his entire family for all the scamming they did. I do think he will issue more related pardons. We'll see.

You are confusing a pardon with immunity. He can simply answer "Fuck you and all your bird dogs" to every question without legal jeopardy.

Yes, I get that but you are missing two points. Firstly, 0biden said he would not pardon his 'child' multiple times.
Second, why should anyone get off for crimes they committed just because they are related to a powerful politician? It's a do as I say, not as I do situation. Rather unfair to every other criminal out there.

Ann,
What about Trump pardoning murderers because Kim Kardashian asked him to??
I vaguely remember that and if I remember correctly the woman who committed the murder had already spent a very long sentence in prison and was an old woman by the time of her pardon. Right? It's not like she did not have to serve any time like Hunter 0biden. Big difference. Do you agree?
People who commit homicides get varying sentences depending on circumstances. I really have no knowledge of the details of that person's situation other than she did do a lot of time for her crime. I think you can than lawyers and the laws at hand for such stuff though.
In my time as a LEo, I can tell some hideous campfire stories of horrific murders I investigated. A lot of them have been released from prison even though they murdered multiple people.

BushPeterWell..at least he did something good for a hunter

07 December 2024, 00:01
MtElkHunterAnn,
While I fully agree with the statement "if you do the crime you do the time", when it comes to politics both sides are guilty. While I do not agree with Biden pardoning Hunter, I find that way less disturbing than Trump pardoning Jan 6th people. Yes Biden said he would not pardon Hunter and then did but then both sides say one thing and do another all the time. I think Trump has the complete corner on the market for lying even though they all do it.

Exactly!
Unlike someone else who calls hunting A HORRORR SHOW!

07 December 2024, 04:58
Aspen Hill AdventuresSaeed, my father thinks hunting is a horror show. My mother loves my trophy photos and mounts.

When she was in her early 60's she asked me to teach her to shoot her 10/22. I did and put a scope on it and sighted it in nicely. She was so excited to be able to shoot the muskrats out of her pond. I had to tell her to leave the poor turtles alone though.

SvinejaktIt`s so strange from an outside perspective that you give this right to a president of a country! Why should any president R or D get to set the law aside for any reason!

LHeym500Our law developed out English Common law.
Traditionally, the King was what we now call the executive and was sovereign. The sovereign had discretion, power to forgive crimes against the state. The monarch was the state/sovereign. We adapted that pier when we created our own Chief Executive. Governor’s acting on behalf of the Sovereign/Monarch had this power. Pardon was well understood when adopted in the Constitution.
That is a thumbnail of why it exists. The King can forgive person to himself which was treason to the state, a President can forgive a gun charge that has already been held unconstitutional in one Fed Circuit committed by his son, or some tax scheme.
If one does not like it, change the Constitution. That would not be very conservative.
My vote would be to retain the power vested in the presidency.

LHeym500Courts of Chancellery still exist in TN. However, their jurisdiction I bet is sharply redefined, limited to their English Common Law forefathers.
