According to a recent poll, support for former President Trump among Republicans has declined following his indictment in the federal classified documents case.

The survey that was conducted by the Associated Press and National Opinion Research Center (AP-NORC) reveals that 60 percent of Republicans currently hold a favorable view of Trump, marking an eight percent drop from April.

In contrast, the percentage of Republicans with an unfavorable view of Trump has increased by eight percent since April, reaching 38 percent. While Trump's favorability among Republicans has decreased, his overall favorability among the general public remains unchanged compared to the April survey.

Approximately 33 percent of the public still views the former president favorably, while 63 percent hold an unfavorable view.

================================================

I think it's ironic that GOPers can't get rid of Trump. Many on this forum say they don't support him. Some say they will vote for him again if nominated.

Yet the mechanism that could get rid if Trump, the rule of law, is under attack. GOPers try to discredit the FBI, CIA, DOJ, and law enforcement in general and other institutions.

Trump makes it clear that his priority if elected again is vengeance, mass pardon those convicted for their part in Jan 6, quash the Deep State, the Administrative State, and increase Exec power, with 20,000 shock troops, and many other vile things. Yet GOPers approve.

The House is busy doing his bidding, censoring Schiff, for example and want to do a lot more.

So much of what the GOP is all about is servicing Trump.

According to the article 60% of republicans have a favorable view of Trump.

In my opinion, I think the percentage of republicans who favor Trumpism is very high.

Trumpism is not just about Trump. the "ism" will continue and maybe mature after Trump is gone.

Trump just has baggage.

All GOPers want is to shed the baggage, but not the "ism".

Let's call it GOPerism.

I honestly think that if the media didn’t have this horrible track record of pro progressive bias that Trump would be gone long ago.

The leftists have managed to give room to let folks believe that the media is lying.

Same with government institutions.

The inner city black community doesn’t believe anything that folks in authority say, because of their experience with bias.

Now you have the conservatives starting to (maybe further than I think) drift into the same group think.

The role of opinion in reporting has become way too polarizing.

Trump is in trouble because he did a lot of what they are claiming. The media would be best serving the electorate by shutting up on the editorializing, and just putting up clips of him doing what he was doing… but that doesn’t give them face time on air, and get them professional awards.

Besides, you are not the mainstream media.

I hope they have not irreparably damaged trust with large segments of the country, but they have damaged trust with large segments, which is not good for the republic.

Another Trump lie(s) -- "enemies of the people", "fake news", "hoax", all bought into, internalized.

Or was it all there, fomenting, like caddisfly larva, waiting till the right demagogue came to lead the way?

Thanks for at least what's left of the press, but that's just part of the problem.

Thankfully, we still have PBS, which as far as I know Murdoch doesn't own, yet.

Maybe parodies don't tickle you, but Trump did and MSM did.

I didn't hear one lie in those parodies. They were clever presentations of facts, skillfully, truth in song, both entertaining and a reminder.

What if, taken as a whole, MSM didn't do the damage you claim? What if, taken as a whole, the revelations, reality, truth perhaps, showed us the damage, the root or fulcrum?

Would you rather the promulgator, the harbor, the light of truth be Trump?

What if the 60% or so, republican MEGAdites, are the main cause and effect of the damage?

They sure as heck didn't get that way, their way, as a direct connection to MSM, except probably Fox contributed.

Nope.

Look at the last 50 years. Regan was continually able to point out the press’ bias.

I’m not advocating Trump. I’m pointing out that part of what allowed Trump’s claim of fake news to fly is that the media has been biased for so long and been caught at it so often that it allows for conformation bias to be believable to reasonable people.

My point was the lefties in media share the blame with Trump. Even now, the signal to noise ratio in their accusations makes Trump’s true failings less visible.

You want to talk about the greatest danger to democracy?

It’s not Trump.

It’s the acceptance of their own biases by the media as being truth and fact.

You could be right - pun intended. Smiler

But really - "News", or influence media has gone whacko to some degree.

For a long time now, I have the impression that those with the most (hard core) bias are the one's pointing fingers, especially at those who step on the toes of their own precious biases.

Nope. The greatest threat to democracy is the willingness to lie to get your way.

Trump is one, but not the only one.

And, yes, to some extent a desire for control is normal.

But the desire to control and the desire for reward need to be tempered.

Trump is a bad actor, no doubt of it.

We all know people on both extremes who are somewhat decent people. There are plenty of leftists that I would grant have decent motives… but how many fall under a projector like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson (or Donald Trump)?

I will grant that I didn’t think Trump could be as bad as he was being portrayed.

I actually still don’t, or he would be the literal antichrist, but I certainly agree he’s not someone who should be given any public responsibility now.

As a conservative, I am certainly willing to say to the GOP, if you nominate him, you are not getting my vote.

Unlike you, I’m not going to say that I’m going to support the folks I don’t agree with, though.

I quit giving to the GOP after Trump’s giving money to people for Covid.

They haven’t gotten me back yet.

But that doesn’t mean I’m giving anything to the democrats, other than maybe voting for someone down ticket whose positions I agree with. I will not vote before I vote for someone I feel will not do what I think proper.

Nope, the greatest threat to our democracy are those who Neil use any means necessary to see the White, Christian “conservative” rule this nation-state.

I will not vote for anyone who believes that other citizens are less than them, or deserve less access in the public sphere than people who look and pray like them.

The leadership of both parties are an absolute joke. Would Trump have been elected if the Democrats had run anyone other than Hillary?

And then they ran Biden against him?! Yes, that did work out, but why in the world would they have taken that chance?

I really hope that the dems don’t take your position that “even Kamala could probably beat him” because they are just dumb enough to try it, and if they do we will be welcoming another 4 years of Trump.

Running horrible candidates with recognizable names is a recipe for disaster. 2016 should have taught them that, but instead they want to blame the deplorables…

You realize you sound just like the folks you can’t stand in the GOP?

Anything is ok as long as it gets me my goal?

You sound a lot like Lane there with the branding of folks you disagree with as being enemies of the nation. With your second paragraph, how can you support the democrats, either?

I didn't read what he said that way. It's not just a matter of simple disagreement. It's a matter of wrong - so wrong that it can't be ignored, especially with whataboutthem chit.

I think he told the truth re "the greatest threat".

Supporting democrats is not the same as supporting the "greatest threat".

The main thing that you do, consistently, is make invalid equivalences.

You can't stop.

I see you making excuses for Trumpism with false equivalence.

The fact is that you are a partisan loyalist, an apologist.

You will not acknowledge that the GOP, in general and despite claims like yours that you do not support Trump, still is on the path for his nomination.

That is an abomination.

From MSM, which you despise:

If I wanted to call someone enemy of the state. I would and would use those words. That is what branding is.

I will say again. I will not vote for anyone who advances policy or legal doctrine that one group is superior in citizenship, and another should be denied public privilege simply because of race, gender, or sex.

The white Christian Nationalist are of the opposite position. They believe these people are other and less than. I have the KKK flyers taped to my door to prove it.

Democrats are not trying to void marriages and criminalize consenting adults.

Dr. Easter is on record here saying states should be allowed to do so.

No sir. I oppose it, and will no longer help elect that side.

Other countries have media which isn’t out on the extreme right or left and gives people a fairly even view of what’s going on in the world. I would agree that there is some degree of editorial slant from almost every commercial source, but rarely is it so blatant as in the US.

Of course you also have the gossip rags like the DM which Saeed loves so much but they don’t qualify as a news outlet.
