The UK ambassador to the US described Trump as inept, insecure and incompetent. Broadly the same, but more polite, than members of his own team ( who he picked as the best people) who felt he was a “fucking moron”.

That such a large chunk of the US electorate are willing to sweep these inconvenient facts under the carpet is truly alarming.

So which one of our "Rulers" did the world leaders respect or like? I'm sure Jefferson and John Quincy Adams commanded respect, Andrew Jackson probably not
FDR sure, Eisenhower certainly, and I'm sure Reagan was globally popular, but World Leaders didn't laugh at "W"? Obama? I doubt it.

I don't believe the globe sees the USA with any kind of fraternity or partnership. World leaders see America for what it has to offer and what they can get. Our next president could pick boogers and flick them around the room with accolades as long as they increased funding to NATO, famine aid to Africa, reduced tariffs and bought more Airbus and Fiat.

I'm sure the UN thought they could get something out of Obama. I'm sure the UN thought it was to their advantage to play nice with "W", Clinton, Reagan, Carter,......

I haven't met a single person trying to take my money that wasn't accommodating and personable.

I guess I can understand why the UN would laugh at Trump, as I've said before I can't stand the sight or the sound of the guy so me? I'd of not been in attendance at that particular get to gether.

I think you are being too cynical Scott, most of the western world very much appreciates the US and not just for its military. By the way I think the US military exports are at an all time high thanks to Vlad and his little adventure.

I think Obama was very much respected, he was a good statesman, Reagan, Bush 1 and slick Willie all played very important roles on the world stage.

Face it, W was respected as well.

He squandered it in his dealing with the war, but he did get a global coalition to support our cause in Iraq and Afghanistan.

While I think Trump is probably despised by most of the free world leadership, it’s not entirely due to his stupidity and lack of behavior. He has been correct about a number of inconvenient things.

Where would NATO be if the EU nations had been made to start living up to their commitments re NATO 4 years before the invasion of Ukraine? Don’t you think that might have had an effect on Putin?

The US has been complaining about the behavior for decades, yet they gladhandled the allies. Personally, I’m glad Trump made the noise because otherwise I’m sure some in the EU would be trying to pin the abysmal state of readiness on the US instead of on their own myopic policies. “US wars wore down NATO and allowed weakness!”

Trump isn’t a laughing fool. He rarely laughs and he’s just a fool……
