JefffiveThe "Some Other Guy Did It" Defense
quote:
President Donald Trump on Friday downplayed his involvement in invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport Venezuelan migrants, saying for the first time that he hadn’t signed the proclamation, even as he stood by his administration’s move.
“I don’t know when it was signed, because I didn’t sign it,” Trump told reporters before leaving the White House on Friday evening.
Of course, as every defense lawyer knows, the "SOGDI" defense works best when you can offer an alternate perpetrator for jurors to blame...
quote:
“We want to get criminals out of our country, number one, and I don’t know when it was signed, because I didn’t sign it,” Trump said. “Other people handled it, but (Secretary of State) Marco Rubio has done a great job and he wanted them out and we go along with that. We want to get criminals out of our country.”
Just one small problem...
quote:
The proclamation invoking the Alien Enemies Act appears in the Federal Register with Trump’s signature at the bottom.
So, when you're the one who has to clean up when the orange elephant shits on the carpet, you have to get, shall we say, creative...
quote:
“President Trump was obviously referring to the original Alien Enemies Act that was signed back in 1798,” a White House statement said.
I'm glad we have highly-paid professionals on the taxpayers' payroll who can clear up any misconception Americans might have that Trump was President 226 years ago.
You would think that a bunch that lies constantly would, at some point, start to get better at it...

300shooterHe's so demented that now he doesn't know what he's signing.
Or he's too feeble brained and Musk and Vance are running the country as Putin directs.

What I object to is punishing people who are merely alleged to have committed crimes. They were apprehended on US soil and have the right to due process.
Don't you think it's ironic that Trump, who whined about lawfare, would engage in it--against people without the means to defend themselves?
I have no idea if those guys were drug gang members. We only have Trump's say-so for that--and we know what his word is worth.

LHeym500I object to legislative due process and legal status being voided by the Executive at will.
I object to arbitrary and capricious actions of the Executive branch.
I object to the concept the Executive can ignore the orders of the Judicial Branch.

Autopen? Or maybe his minions misunderstood what He'd commanded?
Note to self: Never get ahead of your boss. Most particularly not that one.
