Shunning American foods and services has almost become a hobby here, even in redneck Alberta.

One of the greatest concerns is our historical military integration, now that Trump has sneered that they’d compromise the aircraft that we buy from them and retain a chokehold on parts and maintenance upgrades. We’re already working toward reintegrating with Western Europe.

(Saab’s Gripen E Offer to Canada:

According to Saab, its proposal for Canada includes building, maintaining, and upgrading the Gripen E fighter jets domestically, mainly through IMP Aerospace in Nova Scotia—an effort expected to create about 6,000 high-paying jobs annually over 40 years. Partnering with Canadian firms like CAE, GE Aviation, Peraton Canada, and StandardAero, the plan aims to boost the national aerospace industry.

Saab also commits to transferring critical technologies and setting up research centers in Montreal, Vancouver, and Toronto to strengthen Canadian capabilities in radar, cybersecurity, and aerospace innovation)

The feeling is not unlike having a lifelong business partner that has embezzled or betrayed - they might keep trying to reassure you that they’ve changed, but how do you ever trust them again?

I think that the article above even comes up short when it comes to the divestments of U..S. property. My brother in law has a nice second home in Florida, and has listed it with a realtor/friend there. The realtor said she usually struggles to have one or two active listings at this time of year. This year she has sixteen. Another family relative who rents a condo each winter says he was offered half price for next winter if he’d sign up now - he declined.

I’m sure some here think everything is coming up roses for the U.S., but an international alienation of this magnitude does not bode well for either country in the long term.
