When an 18-year-old of our household got his drivers license and "motor voter" registration, the DMV wanted to see his original birth certificate. Not a copy. The 1960s draft boards were never that squeamish about paperwork.

Trump either doesn't know about voter ID in California or he's playing to an audience that doesn't.

Now I idly wonder whether Trump has a RealID drivers license...

According the dhs.gov this morning, all state drivers licenses are REAL id compliant

What Trump is showing is the time wasting of bureaucracy. And it's quite good.

"One week is a long time" and its you don't get it done, I'll executive order it.

Time wasting and petty rules are one of the major costs too all western societies.

As I've said before, the "raking of the forest" will be done, it's not an option. The forests will be "raked" before an inferno that kills hundreds and costs billions in destruction or the "raking" will be done after when scooping up ashes.

The costs will be less if it's done before the inferno and there's several ways. Chainsaws and crews, grazers and herders, control burns, herbicide, heavy equipment, it doesn't matter.

The fuel load has to be reduced so when the 100mph winds come and a spark flashes there isn't the fuel to gather the force we've seen.

There isn't more water available from somewhere else to be piped in. Northern California, the Delta Smelt, the Sierra Nevada and other Western states need their rainfall on their land for their crops, livestock and pets, their kids and gardens. Lake Meade and the Colorado River nearly went deadpool recently, they have no more water to ship to L.A. Desalination miraculously works all over the M.E. but isn't an option for L.A.?!?!?!?

There isn't a single member here willing to drain their duck pond or drain their fishing hole , bottle that water up and send it to L.A.

Or sacrifice parts of forested areas by creating carefully planned corridors to act as firebreaks at the expense of hue and cry from the environmentalists.

I think that's the only solution. It's amatter of public safety that can't be influenced by environmentalism, property rights or "feelings".

Not that I particularly like our governor. I did not vote for him, don't like most of what he does.

I did not see our governor at Trump's televised roundtable meeting with state employees.
The optics are there for our president without any messy responsibility for the results.

State officials would be arrested if they tried managing Federal lands.

I would think California deserves some of the federal tax dollars they pay to be used on California issues. Only the dimmest think this is a California problem, these fires are raging and killing thru out the West.

Trump and only Trump bears responsibility for making himself look like an idiot. "raking the forest," was an easy example and he's been so good at it our friends here repeatedly advised us to "ignore his words,".

Obviously all land owners and managers bear responsibility here. I think I've mentioned before, I know of one of the big Mendocino county fires that started on private property burned the entirety of it with little damage because it was managed lands and the fire didn't turn apocalyptic til it hit the BLM ground. That BLM ground hasn't been managed in decades, it was Trump's responsibility, it was the responsibility of the federal government and it is reasonable for California to expect the feds to take care of the property they own.

There needs to be a foundational change in attitude and procedure. I want to save the frogs as much as the most rabid environmentalist but it can continue to be at the expense of places like Oakland and Altadena.

California is a net exporter of federal tax money, a potential point of leverage.

Maybe the burned areas should be rebuilt from categories of expenses that can be deducted from federal taxes.

Trump did not tour the burned parts of Altadena.
