My nephew boiled sap today so I could sneak off to a gunshow. He works for the USDA.
He said suits in the USDA are pulling their hair out over the media coverage of the egg thing.
Getting prices down was not a priority for Biden, but Trump ran on it.
The US has been importing and exporting eggs for decades. The nephew pulled it up on his phone. The US buys/has bought, from the UK, Poland, Turkey, the Netherlands ( the largest egg exporter in the world? France and China ( I wonder if chinese eggs taper at both ends?) Among other countries. The US at the same time, is exporting eggs. Doesnt make sense to me either, but it's how the market works according to the the USDA. There is nothing different with eggs than any other Ag product. We buy and sell all ag products, every year. Depending on how crops do, depends on how much is imported and from who.
In other words, there is nothing new going on, except the media making sure they get a story out of this, just as they did with wheat shortages or any other product.
It's all on the USDA web site if you want to see the amounts of what products imported and exported from over the years.
