customboltTEXAS-COLORADO theft of coins alert
Lots of good folks on AR. Hope these names spark some leads. Company name is probably fictitious.
The Logan County Colorado Sheriff's Department has issued warrants for the following two individuals for Theft over $28,000 and Crimes Against at Risk Elders.
Christopher Wayne Roberts and Donald Scott Rainey
Beaumont, Texas and Nederland, Texas
Vintage World Coin Nederland, Texas
Details in the warrant affidavit indicate that the victim was contacted by a representative of Vintage World Coin who was interested in the victims coin collection. The sales representative called numerous times pushing the victim into allowing someone from his company to come and assess the value of his coins. The victim finally agreed and Roberts and Rainey traveled to Colorado and met the victim at his residence.
It was agreed that Roberts and Rainey would take the coins for an appraisal and return them at the end of the week. The coins were never returned and the victim filed a report with the Logan County Sheriff's Office.

GatogordoQuite a few years back a very similar crime occurred but the victim was relieved of a diamond worth somewhere between $25,000 and $100,000. Victim was in DFW, and, as I recall, at the time, so was the thief. AFAIK he was never arrested or prosecuted. Could even be the same worthless POS.
This thief should actually be easy to catch if someone puts out the effort. Many, many people stay up nights trying to figure out how to relieve people of their coin collections, as opposed to the shady dealers who only hope to buy a coin for 1% of its true value. Coins, Gold/Diamond mine schemes, oil, timber, real estate all have their own set of thieves/con men. With the collapse of natural resource values, they are probably branching out. I have always been amazed at the number of people, doctors especially, who will "invest" in some proposition they are presented over the phone when they don't know the principals from the neighborhood dogs.
