Wulhotter killed a lion with a folding pocket knife!
It knocked him off his donkey, holding him by the shoulder, and dragged him for some distance.
As the lion stopped, he managed to get the knife out of his pocket, and he said he tried feeling for an opening between the ribs and stuck it into into heart.
The lion died a few minutes later, and he survived to tell the tale.
He tells the story of being in London, and wanted to buy more of the knife he used to kill the lion.
He went to the maker's shop, and in the conversation he mentioned that he had killed a lion with it.
The shop keeper didn't believe him!

Bill/OregonThat was a very ill bobcat, close to death. It picked the wrong lady to tangle with.
I'd have to dig out my copy of "Hell, I was There," but didn't Elmer Keith get into it once with a bobcat? Seems to me he was checking his trap line, found a bobcat seemingly out of it, tried to dispatch it with a piece of tree limb and the limb was rotten. Seenyore Gato came quickly to life!

Not sure how bobcats operate, but one of the major problems with a leopard attack is that while the jaws are busy trying to chomp on vital things, the rear legs are also busy clawing up a storm at the other end, and that seems to be a major cause of serious infections in a non fatal attack. Unless I missed it, the woman only reported damage from the front end! Still, she did not panic and just try to push it off.

NormanConquestI have a friend that was an archiologist on a dig in the Dakotas about 35 years ago. As well as not being allowed to carry any weapons,they were informed that if attacked by a bear just curl into a ball,the the bear would just bat you around a bit + then lose interest.I view that advice just as I did in my youth working the graveyard shift at a gas station about not being allowed to carry a pistol.HA! You can have the money but we are not going in the back.

In fairness, I think that was the conventional wisdom back then. Not any more.

NormanConquestTrue that + I will stand by the conventional but take a bit of issue with "wisdom".When we used to backpack in Big Bend in the early 70's we were not allowed to carry as it was in theory a state park.That is some BIG country.Just imagine walking down some arroyo + by mistake kick a piglet;you can't run far or fast enough.As weight is always at a premium backpacking in the desert,I chose to carry the then new Charter Arms bulldog in .44 spl.At that time the most firepower + less weight of anything around.Never had to use it thank God but I felt better just having it.
