meteThe Bears Have It
We've had an Adirondak bear who could open a bear proof container.I wonder if there are more than one now.
My friend in PA said a bear raided his garbage cans last night .He dumped the garbage then neatly separated it .Being environmentally concerned he he had separated it into piles of Plastic, glass, metal and food !! though he had eaten the food.

J_ZolaThe bigger bears in NJ found if you lay the can on its side and jump on it the lid flys off and the garbage shoots out like a roman candle.

KenscoYears ago I stayed with my family in a cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Because I was aware of the bear "problem". I bought a new garbage can and strapped the lid down with multiple bungee straps, and hung the garbage can about 6' up a tree. WRONG! At 2:00am we heard the damndest noise, and everyone went out with flashlights on the balcony to see WTF.
The bear wasn't very impressed with my efforts. He ripped the garbage can out of the tree and tore the lid off the can. After all the excitement was over, I cleaned up the garbage thrown all around, salvaged the bungee straps, and threw away what was left of the new garbage can.
