bobelk99Question to George
If you don't mind me asking: Was the avatar buffalo head shot or otherwise?

GeorgeSBob,
If you mean my signature photo, that buff was not head shot.

bobelk99Yes, I meant signature photo. My bad.
Thanks for response.

GeorgeSNo problem. What made you think that buff might have been shot in the head?

wasbeemanHell, I just thought you had it trained to lie down and be still.

bobelk99There was nothing in the picture that made me think it was a head shot.
I am not a dangerous game hunter and I have zero knowledge of that world. Many moons ago I elk hunted a couple of years with a gentleman that was a self professed veteran buffalo hunter. He had actually made the cover of a national mag, Sports Afield or some such.
He told some pretty fantastic tales about having to head shoot more than one buffalo. As a result of hearing his stories, I ask it the buffalo was head shot whenever I get a chance.
Do you happen to know anyone who has taken a head shot by choice? Just curious.

GeorgeSNo, I don't. Head shots are usually reserved for charges and culling.
I do not know any PHs who recommend a head shot on an unwounded buff in a
hunting situation.

Cazador humildeMy PH told me to shoot a buff bull in the head. He was unwounded, facing us with his head down, about 15 feet away. I managed to hit him in his left sinus instead. (Not just anybody can botch a shot like this.) It put the hurt on him, but then the barrage started from me and the PH, so he didn't really move more than 4 or 5 feet.

I've actually had non-hunters ask me whether the animals in my photos had been merely lying down.
