meteSatellite Tears
So Zuckerberg lost 200 M $ as his satellite blows up! Poor baby ,but it's only small change for him !!
Same story for Musk !

GatogordoI think it was Facebook's satellite, so part of the loss will be born by US taxpayer's.
Regardless of who lost what, to me, it seems in damn poor taste to celebrate someone else's failure when the end result was not in any way going to be evil.
So what are you happy about? I don't understand the logic.

meteEven the most wealthy can fail so they shouldn't whine about it .They took risks, they lost ,try again !

KenscoA form of penis envy I guess. We all wish we had the smarts, the money, the luck, the killer instinct these billionaires have.....but we don't. More power to them. They change the world. We get the benefit.
I'm just glad it wasn't a manned attempt.

KenscoMaybe this is the real story.

Mark ClarkPeople keep calling it Facebook's satellite. It is really owned by Spacecom out of Israel. FB was just renting time.
When satellites are built they make parts for more than one. The cost to make one part vs two is not much different. Even deep space probes like Voyager there is a second one in case something bad happens. This was AMOS-6, they have more parts. In the space launch industry failures are expected. There is a good reason for the launch crew to be in bunkers.
The major delay is waiting for the investigation to release the launch pad and rebuilding it. SpaceX has more rockets. SpaceX also has a launch facility in Texas, but it is not operational.
