Since my kids have zero interest in my trophies, I have been thinking of selling off most of them..

Mostly European mounts (Gold medal Kudu Bronze Blue Wildebeast, Gold Gemsbock, Gold Blesbock), but a few shoulder mounts (Silver medal Imapala, Gold springbok, and a gold pronghorn.)...

and a few flatskins tanned.. Gemsbok, kudu and wildebeast.

Any idea or recommendation on how or where to sell this stuff?

The medals are SCI and PHASA.

I see a lot of mounts offered on eBay. I've wondered the same thing.

Do not expect to get anywhere near what they cost. Good luck.

I'll let my heirs deal with them. Guess my son will have to take the elephant tusks.

One of the reasons why I never spent the time or effort to have anything mounted was because what happens to them after the hunter has passed on?

I have one shoulder mount whitetail and the only reason I have that is because the guy who owned the place I was hunting on told me that he would pay half the cost to have it mounted.

Eveything else I have is either just the skull cap with antlers attached or European mounts I did myself.

Honestly, unless they were on the hunt, what does a mount really mean to a child or grandchild other than it was important to Dad/Grand Dad.

Try Taxidermy King in Austin, TX. You can sell on consignment, or the owner will buy outright. After several trips to Alaska and Africa, some of the TX "truck trophies" no longer meant much and we parted ways. You won't get much, but you'll get more than throwing away .... In my case all was done via email - sent pictures, he sent a bid list, we agreed on what I would part with, and he arranged pick up.

I used to get mailings from a John something (I don’t recall the last name of the company) that would have frequent auctions in Fort Worth of taxidermy. Maybe another member here can recall the name.

Contact Alderfer's auction in Hatfield, PA. They often have taxidermy auctions. Since they're local you could drop off your self so no expensive shipping involved.

One thing I should mention is that the market for taxidermy is poor. Don't expect to get a lot of $$ for your mounts. Doubtful you'll recover the cost of taxidermy.

Hmm. I suspect that my European mounts of Kudu, Gemsbok and Impala will go with me to the crematorium! But, some of these alternatives are interesting. Problem is that I enjoy seeing them on the wall in my den. Now, the skins are a problem. there is just no place to put them!

I have an 8 point whitetail mount that I had done for my eldest son as that was his 1st deer on our hunt when he was 15. It seemed worth it to me.I built the rifle for him as well;a 98 action in a birdseye maple stock w/ black walnut grip + end caps in 7X57. He still has it.Of course.

I don't do mount rugs or other things.

I do frame pictures.

Then I buy firearms in the memory of the critters I have killed.

From what I have seen mounts and stuff go for pennies on the dollar.

I love my taxidermy mounts. They are constant reminders of the people, places, and details of the hunt.

I have a SIL that desperately wants one of my buff mounts for decorating purposes. When I die, she can have one.

As for the others, I will be dead and don't care what happens to them.

(Although it might be nice to be cremated with mhy ellie tusks).

Same thing with my gun collection. Maybe my heir will get good money for them, maybe not. It sure won't be my problem. LOL
