Post office SNAFU
Well, this has been an experience in frustration. I won a bid on Gunbroker last month + sent the postal MO by certified mail. They never got it. The ladies at the PO told me they were having trouble because two of their larger processing stations have been shut down. They told me that I had to wait 30 days to report it. So today was 30 days; so then they told me that they weren't quite clear about that. It seems that after 30 days then they are willing to have an "investigation" + I had to fill out a form + pay them an additional $21.00 for them to see if the MO has cleared yet.(no recourse on the certified envelope though) That should take at least a week or so + then if they are satisfied, they'll mail me a refund check. And this is with having all my receipts. So far, the seller has been pretty understanding + said that this happens all the time. I've never had it happen before. So what would happen if they "lost" your tax return to the IRS sent certified? I guess you'd just be SOL. Of course, when I send them the next check certified, I'll have to pay for that again too. I just find it a bit of a pisser that I have to pay an additional fee for them to do their job. But of course, if I didn't pay the $21.00, I definitely wouldn't get my money back. This all makes the point of certified mail rather pointless, doesn't it? That being said, I'm still glad that I sent it certified instead of just regular mail, or who knows if I'd ever get reimbursed, or be able to prove to the seller that I mailed the check in the first place. Just one more example of today's "business as usual."

USPS is awful.

They never delivered a birthday card I sent two weeks early in March to my mother.

Last January they left a live cockerel in his shipping container for an entire week with no food or water to sit in Louisiana that was being shipped to me from Kentucky, express. No amount of phone calls to corporate, or what ever you want to call it, would get them to do the job they were paid for. Essentially a contract they made the rules for, set conditions. They completely failed to live up to what they promise. They will readily torture an animal so don't be surprised if you never see a resolution to your situation.

I have other horror stories.

Oh, I do too, Ann. I won't even bother to bring up my son's destroyed stereo when he was at Ft. Lee + the PO wouldn't honor the insurance that they were more than willing to sell; but somehow I was under the misapprehension that a postal money order + certified mail were a relatively safe guarantee.

Randy, I have had numerous terrible problems with USPS in the past 12 months or more -- priority packages going in circles for weeks. I don't know why the wheels seem to have come off. I use FedEx and UPS when I can.

Yep, went hog shooting in Fla July 10, '2011.

Filled a small cooler with meat, froze it solid.
Had it kept in his freezer until I got home before sending it over night, KEEP FROZEN marked in big red lettering.

Temp the day it arrived was 105.
Local carrier left it in the back of his van until after 5pm. "OH, sorry I didn't see that marking!

Dumped it out for the ferals.

George

Meat was hot to the touch and starting to smell.

I think I know the answer to the IRS question. The Utah IRS guys lost my return in their building. I had the green return requested slip signed by one of their guys in their own building. Fortunately I had a copy of the whole return and could send them another one.

Another time they lost my check in their building. Again, I had the green slip that said they received it at their building. They insisted that I send another check, said yes, they got the envelope but could not prove what was in it. That check was never cashed, don't know its history past their receiving department.

Oh, and one of my applications for antelope permits never made it to Wyoming. I didn't find out until results came out and I didn't get even a rejection. Grrr...

I bought a double rifle a few weeks back and had it shipped to my FFL from Colorado. It got hung up at the USPS processing facility in Denver for 5 days, then in Dallas for another 4. Took just about 2 weeks to get it through the USPS.

Rifle needed a new recoil pad to lengthen the LOP and I wanted to mount an RMR. So instead of shipping it to JJ, my son and I jumped in the truck Friday morning at 5:00 am and hand delivered it to JJ at 10:30, then drove back.

I'll be doing the same once he calls to tell me it's ready.

I don't trust USPS with anything, especially an expensive rifle.

Unfortunately, in my case here, I have not received my green certified receipt slip back; all I have is the slip from the P.O. showing that I did send it. Whether the IRS would honor that, I don't know if it ever came to that. I hope I never have to find out.

If Trump wants to do me a personal favor he will disband USPS and get rid of birth citizenship. The first should be easier than the later. Hop to it.
