I'm Going To War!
The squirrels have figured out my Droll Yankees, Yankee Tipper bird feeder. The squirrel army forms below the feeder. They send one guy up top who slides down the tube until he crashes into the plastic plate, cleans as much seed out as he can for his buddies below, then races to the ground to share in the goodies.

My answer is ..... the Remington Express XP Tactical .177 caliber air rifle; 23 FtLb knock-down power; 1150 - 1300 fps; fitted rubber recoil pad; muzzle sound suppressor, etc. etc.

Those little bastards are going to pay.

I asked my wife if she was going to cook them as fast as I kill them. She gave me a big, fat, N-o-o-o-o-o-o. If you are interested, send me your address so I can ship the carcasses to you.

I have much the same problem. They have not yet figured out my bird feeder, but are raising hell with my tomatoes and other vegetables. My solution is a Gamo Whisper. So far the score is Jerry 2 squirrels 0. I will get more tomorrow my child bride is mucho POed at the little buggers. Jerry Hoover

I have been making semi squirrel resistant bird feeders for years using my sheet metal drops. I say semi because they ALWAYS get smart over time + figure out a way.Kensco,if you are ever up here in Liberty Hill,I'll give you one. Jerry, you already know where I live.

A half of dozen rat traps well work better and faster.

But not as fun for sure.

They are playing hell with my pecan crop. I don't know what kind of rat traps you use, but I bought the largest (about 4"X6") I could find. I attached them to the top rail of my fence. The top rail is a squirrel Highway. I couldn't figure out how they were springing the trap and eating the bait (peanut butter). I dedicated a Saturday morning and watched the trap from my den. They would approach the trap and spring it. The trap would knock them to the ground. They would then climb back up on the top rail of the fence and eat the bait. I resorted to have-A Heart traps they work well. I then drive the little buggers about 2 miles from home and release them. They are winning.

I might have been dealing with smaller size ones one red squirrels are half the size of gray on 1/3s the size of fox squirrels.

Snap dead squirrel.

Why to drive them away and relocate them just kill them.

Norman, I get down to Buda once in a while. I'll try to remember to give you a heads-up.

We looked for a few years at retiring to Georgetown. Seemed like every Yankee in the country was moving down to Georgetown to retire.

North Texas is about as bad. There is about a 50-50 split of Texas license plates and those from everywhere else on the vehicles here. I've got friends that are packing now to go back to New York, Michigan, Ohio, etc. for a few months until it cools back down, then they'll be back to be near their kids and grandkids. (I like being away from family so I can see them when I want to see them.)

p

Talking about trapping rodents. I have never been able to trap a rat. They would fire the trap, but get away. They would gain weight on the poison.

Then a few weeks ago I noticed somebody got in the garage and chewed a hole in a bag of bird seed. I set four (4) mouse traps, one (1) rat trap, set out two (2) kinds of poison, and spaced out two (2) rat-sized glue pads. About a week later I walk out into the garage and I find an Eastern Wood Rat trying get himself out of one of the glue traps. He didn't make it. I laid the edge of my fireplace ash shovel across his neck, and hit the knob-end with a hammer. In case you are wondering.....it felt good. I released him (and the pad) in the garbage.

I watched a squirrel try to slide down the Yankee Tipper again today. He didn't make it, and flipped into the dirt. Rain had slicked-up the outside of the tube. I'm going to Gander Mountain Thursday to see what their discount is on that Remington I mentioned. Their days are numbered.

Kensco, you are right about the yankee migration down in Austin/Georgetown,same thing anymore as it is all connected. Now logic would ell you that with this phenominal population increase that there are more to cover the tax burden + thus the same should go down, but that is not the case. It is a nice place to live though as long as you don't go to the geriatric HEB by Sun City, you'll never find parking + if you do you'll never leave the store because you'll be behind some old fart in the middle of the isle who can't decide what he/she wants or where to go.If coming down give me a shout,I can meet you in Georgetown on 35 at a coffee shop.

From what I have been told, you need to move them at least 7 miles away or they will find their way back... Soooooo

Save yourself some gas, and instead of putting the trap in your car to relocate the critters, put it in a trash bag. Start your car and hold the bag over the exhaust pipe until its full then just tie off the bag and leave it for a few hours. Open bag later and empty trap. Start over.

Good luck
