Hunting dinosaurs

This is a place to talk about a theorical but serious ( ? ) subjet : dinosaurs hunting.
If you could go back in time, when dinosaurs where still alive, what gun, caliber and technique should you use to hunt them ( I am talking about sport hunting, not elimination ) ?

My theorical target would be : Tyrannosaurs , diplodocus , stegosaurus and triceratops .

What kind of shots are to be used on this beast ?
I don't think that brain shooting would be a good idea. This technique is usable on a elephant, but elephants have big brains. Dinosaurs had generaly brains small as an orange, and long necks meaning lot of head moves. So, shooting the brain would be too much difficult.
To me, 2 options are available :
- shoulder shot, to immobilise the game ;
- heart sho, to kill him as quick as possible.
This animals being very large, a powerfull and penetrative bullet would be necessery.

But what penetration would be enough ? After all, this dinosaurs are at least twice the weight of an elephant...
I don't know what kind of penetration would be necessary for breakink a diplodocus shoulder.

A .458 Lott would be a good choice to me.

But you would have to handload carefully your cartridgesto avoid overpresssure : oxygene rate was 30% higher at this time !

As a kid I listened to radio programs as there was no TV. One of those programs I always remembered involved just what you are thinking. I still listen to old time radio on a Canadian station and they've played that program again !!

They went by time machine back to the dinosaur days for a hunt .The hunter wanted to get the biggest type but the guide asked if he really had room for a mount of those huge beasts !!

For the largest ones even a 600 would seem very small !

I think a 6.5 Grendel or a .17 HMR would be plenty 'cause "it ain't what you use but where you stick 'em that counts."

I regularly head shot squirrels out of 75-100 ft trees with a .22 in my youth. Dino brains are relatively small compared to body size but still big. I'll pull a "Selby" and brain shoot them with a 7x57 solid thru the auditory canal. Cold/likewarm-blooded animals move pretty slow. Even birds(which are raptor dino descendants) can be head shot.

NO PROBLEM!!! walmart after midnight. 458 or bigger would b advised don't shoot the spandex monsters there messy to clean and there brains to small to hit

All of the dinosaurs I have harvested have been with my bare hands. I find the challenge exhilirating. Nothing makes me feel like a man more than watching the life leave their softball like eyes. bsflag

Well, if I was going to take this serious like, I'd get one that was advertised for this, or at least pictured in an ad being used against a T Rex - the Auto Mag V in .50 AE.

It's just a great handgun for knock-around carry in the old primeval dino swamp..

For the primary? No question on that...a gun like I saw at the gunsmith's today...a Greener 8 bore black powder double shotgun. Not for the power but for the smoke to cover my retreat..

I'd also like a barrett 82 but with AP ammo. The hip shot on the tyranosaur to put it down is an easy one. A classic shoulder shot on the quadrepeds would be my point of aim.
