New Yorkers report Tiger on loose in Manhattan......
...opps, not exactly....

quote:
Folks in New York City don’t have a lot of experience around wild animals. That has never been more clear, after someone made this epic mistake in identity last week.

911 calls came in early in the morning, with reports of a tiger running through the streets. The sighting was originally reported in Upper Manhattan, near West 162 and St. Nicholas Ave.

Now, a call like this would be easy to assume it was just a hoax, but local police apparently did not take the reports lightly. Some citizens in the surrounding area even said on Twitter that a helicopter was deployed to the scene.

There was a problem though. . .

When officials arrived to the scene ready to go toe-to-toe with a tiger, they were faced with a far less menacing critter.

From twitter:

You're gonna tell me my roommates and I (in Williamsburg, Brooklyn) were all rudely awakened bY a helicopter overhead because some idiot in Washington Heights (Manhattan)

MISTOOK A RACOON FOR A MF TIGER?!?!

Me: you got anything on a tiger in Washington Heights?
NYPD spokesman: not a tiger. it's a raccoon.
Me: for real?
NYPD spokesman: dead serious. welcome to Thursday morning.

According to ABC News, the raccoon was captured and taken in by Animal Care Centers of New York City, where the animal was euthanized due to concerns of it being infected with rabies.

I wonder how much a chopper flying around and the street cops chasing a coon cost?

If a tiger really did get loose in a major anti-gun city, I wonder how many people would regret not having a gun?

Someone in our neighborhood reported a cougar last week. I tried to point them more towards bobcat, since we have bobcats. Nope they were pretty sure it was a mountain lion. I declined to get into a back-and-forth with them. I don't think 2% of the people recognize wild game anymore. They are too divorced from nature.

I had an A/C technician compliment me on the moose I have mounted in my office. In the nicest way possible, I corrected him, and told him it was an elk.

I heard an intervue many years ago by one of last of Louis Armstrong's band. They were playing a gig in New York + although could not come in the front door, even though they were playing there, the hotel gave them a room on one of the upper floors. Now Louie liked fresh air so we opened the windows before we went down to play. When we got back there was a coon rumaging around in the room tearing up everything as coons do. So Louie calls the front desk + says "There's a coon in my room!" The front desk says no problem sir,we'll be up right away I throw that nigger out.Louie hollers back "No man,I'M the nigger, there's a coon in my room."

On a related subject;about 10 years ago a friend of my son was dying in the hospital from liver cancer. He owned 2 full grown Bengal tigers _ had a huge cage out back with a run into the house. They slept with him at night. No shit. He had a contact with a poultry house that kept him supplied in frozen chickens so he kept them well fed.Anyway while he was dying his girlfriend found some new + started to clean out his house but did NOT feed the tigers. When Lee knew he was not gonna make it asked my son if he wanted the tigers, cage + all + told my son HELL NO! What you need to do is call TP+W + tell them what is going on. They will either be ols at an exotic auction or put down, but above all else those cats need to be fed.Could you imagine 2 hungry Bengals loose in the Hill Country?Oh another piece of interest.Lee liked to play with his tigers as well as sleep with them (perish the thought). His cages were about 50 yds. long. He said stand right here by the door w/ the cat at the other end. He will come for you in 3 bounds,+ you can not turn + get out the door before he is on you.He would also have you back up to the cage + let the tiger put his paw through the bars onto your chest pinning you there.Try to move.Impossible.
