There is a reason the American Bison was almost extirpated. Those old Sharps rifles would flat out shoot! Even back in those days it was not uncommon for buffalo hunters to position themselves at the edge of a bluff and lob bullets into the bison below, then wait for them to bleed to death or expire from lungs full of blood. Some of the shots made nowadays with them are pretty incredible.

Go to a full blown BPCR shoot sometime and watch those guys shoot "open irons". It is mind boggling!

There were two others I was looking for but couldn't find clips of. One was the long shot at Gregory Peck in Billy Two Hats and the other was the target match in the 1953 Jimmy Stewart movie Winchester 73.

The Billy Two Hats shot is in here starting at about the 22:00 mark: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2wnqjn

Clint (Blondie) shoots the rope that Tuco is hanging from (actually 2 separate times in the movie, if I remember right).

In Winchester 73,while Jimmy Stewart was doing the acting,Herb Parsons was behind the camera doing the actual shooting + yes that was real shooting.

Oh + along that same line, when they came out with the BAR the gov. had Ad Tupperwein come to do a shooting display. They threw up a washer + he drilled it through the center hole. No one was quite sure if they believed that or not so he told them yo put tape over the hole + did it again. Now that would be neat to have footage of.

Never mistake motion for action.

It shows the long shot. The original doesn't.
