Idaho Lawmakers Take a Bite Out of Girl Scouts' Cookie Revenue
By ABC News April 7, 2013
Girl Scouts across the country learn money management skills from their annual cookies sales, but this year a group in Idaho can add civic action to that list, after lawmakers blocked a bill that would have exempted them from paying sales tax on their annual cookie fundraiser.
For each box of cookies sold, Idaho Girl Scouts will have to hand over 22 cents to the state - taking a $150,000 bite out of the revenue that would otherwise be used for troop activities.
Julie Hart, a volunteer lobbyist, took the girls to the capital before a tax hearing to educate them on the process. While they were there, the Girl Scouts gave hand-written notes and Thin Mints to lawmakers, explaining their case.
The state's House of Representatives voted to abolish the tax, but then a group of state senators blocked it, refusing to entertain any tax exemptions, even for the non-profit Girl Scouts.
"The issue is, how many exemptions do we get?" said State Sen. Jim Patrick, who is supporting the Girl Scouts. He called the decision "a lot of pressure."
Although the outcome wasn't what the Girl Scouts hoped for, a fourth year scout named Hailey told ABC News they planned to try again next year.
"We are going to keep on going to get this law passed," she said.

Sad day. But they may as well get used to it early.

NormanConquestJTEX,not trying to start a fight here but I find that comment about as offensive as when Clayton Williams was running for Governor + made that statement that taxes like rape;when inevitable, just lay back + enjoy it.It cost him the election + not just by the women's votes. I do disagree with the policy (government b.s. taxation)but I have a problem with "getting used to it."

KenscoOver the years, I've been impressed with how little product the buyer gets, and how much more packaging.
Having said that I still bought six boxes of the Dulce de Leche. The kid had a pretty good sales pitch.
I've started an X-cel spread sheet because I can't remember what stupid stunts my Senators / Representatives have pulled lately. When I get to the voting booth next time, I'll whip it out and get some payback. Putting the bite on the Girl Scouts deserves some payback.
Right now my list has more Republicans on it than Democrats, which is a switch from last time. That doesn't much bother me. I almost prefer to vote for the person that loses, then I have legitimate bitching rights.
I hated Nixon and never voted for him until his last run for President, when I did, because the Democrats offered a poor alternative. We all know how that worked out. I had no right to bitch for four years; damn near killed me.
