When is "shipped" shipped?

Bill/OregonWhen is "shipped" shipped?
Man, I am getting really tired of this business of being emailed that, "Congratulations! Your item has shipped!" when in fact all the sender did was create the label. I think Potterfield at Midway started this fabrication. I don't consider an item shipped until it is in the hands of the shipper and no longer in my possession.
OK. Rant over and time for graham crackers and milk ...

There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

You'll get over it, the graham crackers and milk should help you sleep better. Don't forget your favorite teddy bear and blankie.

SaeedI worked in a shipping department- books - in the 70’s in England.
We were instructed not to print the shipping label until the package is ready to be labeled.
Which meant the package comes to us, we print the label, and hand the package to the shipper.
Must be done same day!

crbutlerI agree with Bill.
While Midway does ship quite quickly, IMO until the carrier has the item, it hasn't shipped. I don't care if you have a shipping label and paid the fee... until it is out of your hands, it hasn't shipped.
I often get the shipping notice from Midway, and the tracker states "not received".

Bill/OregonI bought an item on Gunbroker recently and got the same breathless announcement that it had shipped. They waited two full business days before handing it over to UPS. This is what I am talking about -- and yes, I love my blankie!

There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

Bill/OregonGeorge, I do, although I find "informed delivery" pretty inconsistent as well.

congomikeMy wife had some medical supplies shipped via USPS. Received the tracking number after a day or two. Looked up the tracking number and the message said that it was not showing up in their system. Thought that maybe it had not been processed through UPS yet. Checked back everyday and received the same message. Checked the mail on the 6th day and it was there. Went back to the tracker and still had the message it was unable to be located and gave me instructions on how to report it lost........

john c.my wife orders a lotta crap from amazon. i only order important things. manly things. so UPS and Prime trucks are here a lot. lately ive been getting notice from them saying "your pkg was delivered at so and so time" and yet the pkg isn't here. 1 to 3 days later here it is. so i asked a little cutie driver( you didn't expect me to ask the ugly ones did you)what was going on. she said the deal is that when their shift is over, they have to show everything was delivered so they mark it as shipped and run it by the next day or so. this actually jives with what happens.
