Woodrow SCabelas firearms consignment reputation
Does anyone have information, good or bad on consigning firearms through Cabelas? Not sure if I want to go that route first, list some of them here first to see the level of serious interest or go thru the trouble of the Gunbroker route. I have perhaps 15 rifles and 15 handguns to sell to gather cash for a new kitchen renovation. Luckily though, that is only about 1/3 of what I have so it won't hurt too badly

GeorgeSI have no experience with Cabela's consignments, but no one will push your guns harder than you would.
Put them on Gunbroker for a wide audience.

jimatcatdepending on what you have, depends on where you sell them... high quality, low serial number collector??.... then willouby-McCabe...or rock island auctions... field, hunting guns??... then gunbroker, gunsamerica, guns international... ive had several good deals thru the cabela's in buda tx... and I'm not sure what their consignment policy is...then of course there's AR classified's... I've had good luck thru here too...

ScottBI just went thru the used racks at the Buda Cabela's, we were on the highway and needed to stop and take a break.
Seems to me you get a lot of local visibility by putting it on their rack, but you are also stacked next to their clearance rack that has all their NIB stock that they need to unload fast. So you are in effect competing with them and their clearance sales.
If you want the benefits of consignment and the the benefits of targeting the net, is there an FFL that is aggressive in sales, and trustworthy, and close to you? That would be the best of all worlds. Of course you compete with the rest of their inventory too, but you likely don't have someone who doesn't know that a BAR in 243 is quite obviously not a WWII collectible and will direct you to the gun library which is devoid of anyone available....

Idaho Sharpshootertry 60% of what they expect to sell it for.
I tried once with a Wildey in 45 Magnum. They told me they would list it for $1600, and I could expect between $900 and $950.

Just to be fair, some people have been scraping the barrel dry due to the Clinton-era one gun a month laws. I know, supreme court and all, but sometimes people follow older laws just because they are the right thing to do...

What one gun a month laws? I just bought 7 or 8 in the last couple of weeks.
Second to the person above who thinks he should tell someone else how to manage their finances, screw that. Guns are assets, just like anything else, and if he needs to sell some to divert the value stored in them to some other use, then it is his choice, certainly not yours. I suspect he will still have a few left.
BTW I've bought a revolver from Woodrow S and it was a smooth, no problems transaction.
If you'd like to send me a list of the ones you want to sell, I might be able to reduce the total by a few.

I need to sell some too, but WTH, I've got a BBQ grill.

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.
NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.
I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

Surely you could tell my post was humor. Guess I forgot to put one of those little smiley face thingies. I don't care what you or woodrow spend your money on.
That person above my name would be Jarrod. It says it right there for my user name.

LJSI believe a check has to come from corporate which is slow. I bought a rifle and when it arrived it was much worse than described. I had sent a money order so I returned it expecting a prompt refund. The refund took a couple months from corporate and at year end I received a 1099. I had to get my accountant involved to straighten it all out. I'm done with Cabelas!

lavacaThe best place to sell a firearm is on this site.
I can't believe George is advocating Gunbroker.
Cabelas has gone downhill bigtime ever since it went public.
Maybe Midway could pick up consignment sales as well.

Isn't there still a law that we have to buy one gun a month? I get so confused with all that sometimes.

13 November 2014, 00:44
Alberta CanuckI can't speak about the laws of your state. I m not familiar with them.
HOWEVER, nationally there is no law in the U.S. limiting purchases to one gun per month, and never has been. I have bought 8 or 10 guns on the same day, completely legally in all respects.
There HAS been a BATFE regulation applied to some states (not all) requiring that gun dealers report multiple purchases by one purchaser, but I do not know if that still stands. At any rate, it did not and does not bar multiple purchases.
I think the logic they used to justify it is that it is illegal to buy guns intended for another person (with some exceptions), and they just can't believe that one person would want to buy more than a couple of AR-15s, or M1911 38 Supers at the same for their own use. Right or wrong, it still doesn't ban such purchases but does make it possible to track how often the same person does that. The hope is apparently to reduce the flow of arms smuggled illegally across our borders into other countries, particularly Mexico.
A tough call to decide whether to support such a regulation, or to fight to get it removed.
If there is a better way to combat such illegal activity, I have not yet seen it suggested or implemented without stomping all over the 2nd Amendment, but of course I also regret/resent EVERY government intrusion into any part of my [personal life.
I also regret/resent the actions of those smugglers, who primarily provide murder weapons to completely amoral drug cartels.
How do we balance personal freedom and privacy against the need to apprehend those whose actions are clearly harmful to all except them? Tough call...

NormanConquestCheck does NOT have to come from corporate. When the rep. came out he did inventory + carried a company check. Might have been a scam on his part as I never saw any of my pieces on the Fine Guns website. The check cleared however.Trouble in Paradise perhaps.
