Just received my tusks and horns from my Namibia trip in July. Now that they have been boiled and dried several times, the lowers have all split in half. What has been the most successful repair for you guys.

My first thought is to epoxy them together, and then clamp or tie them with wire tightly until set. Following that, I could fill with resin to add stability.

Anyone with any better, sure-fire fixes?

The same thing happened to me and your fix is what I had to do. I asked a lot of taxidermists and they told me the same thing....good luck

Sounds like a good idea. I had a piece of one of the lower tusks split of one time, and just glued it together (with super-glue). Worked fine, but if they`re split in half, you might need to fill them...

I know this can sometimes be difficult but IMHO when we are in Africa the BEST option is to attempt to bring your Wart Hog tusks back with you directly after the hunt.

Most African outfitters can have the tusks already removed from jaw, cleaned, Inside & Out for you at the end of your hunt. Wrap in bubble pack and in your suitcase straight away. Fill with Epoxy or Hot Glue as soon as possible after you return home!

Since in these circumstances poor ole Blank's tusks have been drying out since last July without being filled - it's no wonder they have split.

Thanks guys. Don't know how I missed the other post.

I finally got the time to fix my warthog tusks. Used the fiberglas resin method to fill completely, after sealing and taping securely with Scotch tape. Stuck them in sand in a Tupperware box to remove the heat generated by the resin/hardner reaction. Made sure the tops were nice and level. Filled all 8 totally full and they came out perfect. This will protect the thin edges. Thanks for all the help!
