Value of pre-ban cheetah pelt?
Posted 25 Jun 2009 10:26 PM
Guys,

A good friend passed away, he was a gentleman and one of my hunting mentors.

I'm helping his wife sell off the stuff guys like this collect and down in the basement we found the hide of a cheetah that was taken by his father back in the 1950's. It's in very good condition, no hair loss, it's an entire skin with the head skinned out. In the bag is a certificate from the US Government attesting to it's pre-ban status.

Any ideas as to value on something like this?

Thanks, Rob

I don't know the degree to which the "pre-ban" status impacts this but people here were talking about the illegality of "selling" CITES animals recently. You can see my opinion in the thread.

Hello Rob,

Just wondering if you read my second PM to you and if you made a decision on the skin yet

Hey Rob,

Since you probably can't sell it legally, you should just send it to me and I'll use it as a decoration in the newer trophy room that was "a work in progress" when you last visited.

How would Ellen feel if I brought it as a house gift instead of Italian bread?

Me thinks Ellen would prefer the bread. Big Grin

BTW, I was back in your country -- NJ actually -- a week ago for my 50th HS class reunion. Couldn't wait to leave and get back to where the sun shines every day. Cool

It has been dark and damp here for most of June but the next week looks great, get some work done and some fishing in!
