Zimbabwe Buff and Tuskless in Sept, thinking off bringing back a few hide panels for gun cases etc. Was told to have the hides tanned in Zim as the freight will be less coming home. Anyone have any experience with Zim taxidermist and what do I need to do to have them shipped to the USA.
Thanks

zhabaHi .I had some skins tanned over there on my last hunt and i will never do it again. When i took them to my taxidermist to mount he said that what ever the solution was when the were rehydrated they had no give/stetch in them which caused heaps of issues when he mounted them. Just my experience

Chris E NelsonI had my Elephant tanned there and saved Big Bucks !!Shipping the untanned hide will cost you big and it cannot be just tanned ..it has to be shaved to a thickness that is easy to work with and that costs extra here as well !! I would suggest having them dye it a medium grey because undyed looks rather ugly. Check out Trophy Hides in MN ...they made me some wonderful things including a Great Bomber Jacket at a very very reasonable price

ZephyrWho did you use to tan your hides and what was is the protocol in getting them shipped over here? How much of the hide did you have tanned I figure 2 panels would be more than enough for a few gun cases.
Thanks for your advice
