How far from the wall does a shoulder mount stick into the room?
I have 8 ft.ceilings in the room,and was trying to decide between wall mount or pedistal.any suggestions?

BNagelGet a yardstick out and point it out into the room where you might want to hang it. Also, consider where a handy stud might be. You're talking about hanging 50# or so.

Something like 3 1/2 to 4 feet from backboard to nose.
Your choice of pedestal or shoulder is really a matter of personal taste and budget.
The pedestal will be more striking and if the room is large enough, you can place it out from the wall allowing you to view the mount from all sides. This allows you to get creative with the back of the mount and do some custom artwork, habitat, map of Africa, etc..
As with all mounts, hanging close to eye level really allows you the best view of the mount and all its details.
