LegioXTanneries in Tucson/Phoenix area
Hello Gents.
I'll be going on a hunt in Namibia next month. I hope to have the hides dipped and shipped to the US. My google-fu is weak so I seek your knowledge of a good tannery/taxidermist in the Tucson/Phoenix area.
My biggest issue is the tanning of a giraffe hide if I choose to take it. My research shows they need extra care during the dipping/tanning process as proven by the local taxidermist in Africa. They will dip and ship but will not tan a giraffe.
All input is welcome.
Thanks Fellers

Equinsu OchaThere are none.
Most all taxidermists around here (Tucson) use out of state tanneries.
All of my capes go to TX. I also use Wildlife Gallery too sometimes ..they have a pick up service that rolls through here.

Bill CollectorTry, by all means to have the giraffe tanned over there...too many problems by the time it gets over here.
I lost a full mount giraffe hide because of bugs, etc....and the tanning cost for one in the us is a fortune

mmassey338Legio,
Where in Namibia? The taxidermist I used last time has quoted me a price on tanning a giraffe for this year. She's in Outjo, but can prob recommend a tannery if you're not near there.
Let me know if you'd like her email.

I would guess the cost of tanning a giraffe in the US will be a good bit more than getting the same work in Namibia. Try contacting Wilko at Reiser Taxidermy in Namibia. They show a price of $1800 to tan the skin (not felted).
