I'm doing an alligator hunt with a friend this fall, and trying to figure out what I want to do with the hides. My friends is only really aware of either getting leather made or doing a hornback cut and a hard cure tacked to a board.

What would be ideal to me would be to find someone that can do basically a tan that keeps the scutes/scales on and preserves the natural color (like the hard cure/board appearance) but is supple so I could hang it on a bannister. For hairy critters I get this done and it's either called a hair on garment, trapper, or soft tan.

Does anybody have suggestions on tanneries that I could talk to about getting something like this done?

We hunt alligators on my ranch. There is a guy who does this about a half hour or so south of us. He has done a number of things for us.

I'll get the guy who watches my place to get me the name and contact info. He is on vacation right now in Alaska. He just left Anchorage yesterday and headed elsewhere to go fishing.
