Martyelephant foot umbrella stand
Anyone ever make one of these? Is there a form available, or do you start from scratch? Is the hide dyed, or does it get painted?

HughiamNo form is available that Im aware of. The hides come back elephant colored, you have to sew up the back/foot. You will have to apoxie the seam and paint to match. Jonas makes a good african grey paint. Seal it with a sealer.
You can use 12" PVC as your form, fill the excess with 2 part foam. Roll the top of the skin down over the pvc to create a finished edge. You can line the inside of the pvc with buckskin, felt or other material. Ive heard you can use a small round waist basket instead of pvc, but haven't found the right size yet.

No liner at all, just epoxied on the inside to give it some body. I would guess several coats. Holds up well.

sculptorThe seam is hiden with epoxie clay and the hide is painted. The wet foot is first sewed up and then wet sand is pounded into the foot to shape it and left in until it dries. After that you pour out the sand and fiberglas the inside. Then you can make a stool top or whatever. Thats basicly how I do it anyway.
