Civet Cat Mounting Suggestions
I was fortunate enough to bag a nice, large civet cat on my first trip to Zim. Wife wants it made in to a rug to drape over the coffee table-I would prefer full body mount. Any one who has taken one of these-any chance of seeing pics of what you did?

Do you have the skin now? Was it skinned for a lifesized mount? The reason I ask is the condition of the skin may answer the question for you. Many of the smaller animals like these and genet, jackals and caracal etc.. suffer from poor skinning/field care. Not sure why this is but they do not seem to receive the same level of care as larger animals. This can result in missing feet, tails etc...

Some things can be repaired and some things may be better off as just a tanned flat skin or rug.

If the skin is in good condition for a life sized mount I would recommend that over a rug but that is all a matter of taste and budget.

A wall mount on a small habitat shelf would look nice.

Wow, after seeing that beautiful mount I do regret having had my civet cat made as a rug!
Nice work.

If I had one, I'd have it mounted life-size trying to reach into the air to get a fleeing Guinea Fowl.

I was incredibly lucky my second trip, first to RSA. I shot a Caracal the first day out chasing Kudu.

Trophex in Joberg did a full body mount, draped over a limb. It came out just gorgeous.

Like you, I was just incredibly lucky, many PH's have never seen one in the wild, except hunting with dogs. Mine was just walked around a bend in the trail and saw him sitting there licking his balls. Bang! Dead!

When I shot my civet I wasn't sure whether I would go with a full mount or a rug. Gibbo told me to get it full mounted and said "if you get that full mounted people will walk past your buffalo and your kudu to look at it". It took me a long time to come to the decision but I eventually bit the bullet and went for the full mount. Am I ever glad that I did. Here are a few snaps of it after I picked it up this fall. Now it lives on the top of my mom's piano. I guess that means that I need to buy a piano...
