Is there anyway to remove blood stains from caribou horns?
They were in velvet, and not peeled till getting home. Here is what we have tried;

soaking them in a lake for 5 weeks

power washing them at a car wash ( hot soapy & cold rinse)

Steel wool (corse & 0000)

Any ideas??

Are you going to stain the antlers. Boos have antlers. LOL. Why do you what to remouve stains, are you going to leave them in the white?

The part of blood which stains is iron. What you got really is rust stain. So what remouves rust stain? Oxy-clean perhaps? Chances are the stains are imbedded in the porous bone and it is darn near impossible to get it out.

I betting a proxide soak will get things bleached white, like skull mounts, but I don't think you what to bleach them? do you?

"Horns" was a polite term, after the frustration we have been thru.

The reason for stain removal some places are almost black, other places are off white. not pretty!! yes we are going to stain them but would like something more uniform color.

I'm assuming a bit here, but I'm betting the "black" is the area that hadn't turned to "hard horn" yet. If that's the case, there's only one solution that I recommend: paint. Paint the entire set with flat white interior paint. Once dried, use a dark walnut wood stain and work your antlers until you get the desired coloring.

I was given an extra set to play with, (with the same problem) I will try your suggestion.
